, Kunsthalle Münsterthink of a path, think of a trace, think of a leaf. Exploring nature with Maike Denker
,‘We start on the leaf of a silver poplar. The caterpillar of a snail moth draws its map there. We go further.’
Maike Denker
The accompanying programme is an essential part of our exhibition nicolás paris: Manigua. It consists of a series of co-operative, unscripted, workshop-like encounters: Exercises, workshops, experiments.
With think of a path, think of a trace, think of a leaf, Münster-based artist Maike Denker is a guest at the exhibition for the second time and invites visitors to join her on a bike tour to Aasee lake, followed by a walk in the woods above the lake. The route of the walk is inspired by the connection to nature and the surroundings. In Denker's artistic practice, the walk can give rise to the idea of a space that is not only walked on with the feet, but also encompasses mental or virtual dimensions. It thus becomes a space of possibility in which a place can be condensed and experienced through free wandering and reflection.
Meeting point: 3 pm in front of the entrance to the Kunsthalle Münster. From there we will travel together to the Aasee, the tour ends on site. You are cordially invited to visit the exhibition in the Kunsthalle before the tour.
The event will last approximately two hours. Please bring sturdy shoes and your own bike. Participation is free of charge, but please register in advance at: kunsthalle@stadt-muenster.de
Maike Denker (born 1982 in Münster) studied media art at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig from 2009 to 2016. From 2010 to 2012, she took part in residencies and projects at the Royal Collage of Art London, the École supérieure d'art Brest, the Kongelige Danske Kunstakedemi Copenhagen and the University of Applied Arts Vienna. She has been working in her studio at Atelierhaus Speicher II in Münster since 2020 and has been represented by the ato Kollektiv since 2022. Denker has exhibited at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn, the Grassimuseum in Leipzig, the Center d'Art Contemporain in Brest and the Giorgi Leonidze Literature Museum in Tbilisi, among others. In her works, Maike Denker examines the complex interrelationships of our environment. Her artistic research practice is located in the field of tension between art, nature and science. A special feature of her observations of nature are unusual forms of interdisciplinarity between herself as an artist and other natural organisms.
