With Tinted Glass, the Kunsthalle Münster is presenting Charlott Weise’s first solo exhibition in a German art institution. In her works, the Amsterdam-based artist examines the representation and reproduction of femininity and its performance, issues she explores in various realms such as literature, fashion, (mainstream) media and theatre. At the same time, painting and its rich history offer a crucial starting point for her artistic inquiry. Her practice can be seen as a form of intuitive visual writing through which she reflects on an unconscious inner world composed of relationships, images and obsessions. In abstract as well as figurative representations the artist generates tension between sketchy, brutal and explicitly formulated rendition. Bodies appear and disappear, or turn into abstract forms. In Tinted Glass various ghostly and angelic beings as well as female protagonists come together in a kind of cabaret, detached from time and space.

On the occasion of the Tinted Glass opening, the artist Chalott Weise and the curator Franca Zitta talk about the newly created works, the development of the exhibition as well as artistic influences.
