Monika Baer

, 2005

The painter Monika Baer (b. 1964 in Freiburg/Breisgau, lives and works in Berlin) has since her studies in Düsseldorf been working on an oeuvre in which she formulates a world similar to Schlegel’s description: enigmatic and unfixed. Her first large-scale paintings before the mid-nineties inhabit surreally naturalistic landscapes devoid of people. White cactuses glimmer in nightly tropical waters; empty baskets are caught up in an autumn storm.

The exhibition catalogue has been published on the occasion of the exhibition at Bonnefantenmuseum Maastricht, Pinakothek der Moderne München and Ausstellungshalle zeitgenössische Kunst Münster.
